Hard to believe it’s been three months (and some change!) since my wee lad turned one.  We had his checkup on Friday and he’s hanging out on the same lower curves.  (Lower than his gigantic first 9 months, but more realistic to the size he will probably end up, given his “not gigantic” parents).  He was around the 50th percentile for his height (31 inches) and 25th percentile for his weight (23 pounds, 4 ounces).  I laugh thinking that his weight percentile seems so “thin”…his rolls and appetite would seem to be in opposition to the charts on this one.  The only measurement that remains in the “gigantic” range is his big ole noggin~49 centimeters, 90th percentile.

A few other things about Lucas at 15 months:

  • Has a stubborn streak (still!).  Quite good natured and easy going…until told “no.”  Then the drama comes out.  Tears, screaming, hitting, thrashing.  But luckily they all seem to pass quickly most of the time and he’s on to the next thing.
  • Most used words~no, yes, hi, bye, mama, dada, up, down and dog.  He also knows tons of signs and even signed his first two word phrase “dog eat” while helping Kailey feed the trusty dog, Lucy.
  • Great at following directions.  “Go get your shoes.”  “Take these socks to Daddy.”  “Throw away your diaper.”  Haha, he’s finally starting to earn a bit of his keep!
  • Developed his first fear at this month.  While this is part of intellectual growth, it still took us by surprise, as his fear is of the blender.  Truth be told, we don’t use the blender very much, so it might be “scary” in that regard.  But neither kid cares about the vacuum, so when he freaked out at the blending of some delicious pancake batter, we tried not to laugh…too much.  Poor bub.
  • His infectious personality and squealing laughter just continue to charm us all.  Kailey has to be sure to give him a hug and kiss before bedtime, which he loves to return.  Both kids are tucked snugly in their beds and we will hear Lucas echo his sister by saying “buh” (bye) and blowing kisses.
