Wednesday’s speech therapy appointment went better by all reports. Since I was working, my mom was here to watch the kids and Bill was home just for the ST appointment. Kailey started off a little unhappy, but warmed right up, even playing peek-a-boo with the therapist. No more mention was made of her “behavioral” issue, so maybe the therapist realized she didn’t have all the answers after knowing my kid for all of 5 minutes. Whatever, I guess. She is planning on coming back to our house on Monday and then the real test will be to see what happens on Wednesday when they are back at the center. If the meltdowns ensue again at that point, we will just make the decision about whether to try a new therapist or take a break for a few months before attempting therapy again.
Thank you so much to all who reached out to offer support. Your words and kindness meant so much to me. The first child seems like such an experiment in parenthood and often I let the (self-imposed) extra pressure of a diagnosis weigh to heavily on me. I just want to do right by both of these little people, you know?
(Sorry I didn’t update sooner. It was one of those instances where you recount the story so many times that you start to forget who you already told it to and who you might have accidentally forgotten).
